Eagle Scouts are given the chance to vie for a scholarships provided by the National Eagle Scout Association or NESA. If you think you have what it takes to qualify, firstly you must understand that these scholarships are given annually depending on the funds available. Moreover, there are also constraints affixed to these scholarship grants.
Some information you must remember regarding the process are listed as follows.
Conditions of the scholarship grants
Basically, there are four stipulations that every applicant must acquiesce to in order to be given the educational funding from NESA.
The award money will be given directly to the university or college. This will be after NESA received the form they have given out for you to fill completely and honestly.
The educational grant will cover tuition, boarding, and book fees. These are the only expenses the association will cover as long as the grantee is a full-time student for the entire duration of the grant.
The award money will be paid depending on the chosen institution's guidelines.
The award money is only acceptable by all accredited four-year universities or colleges offering a bachelor's degree on any course.
Requirements of the educational grant
For an applicant to be considered as a favorable recipient of the funds, he must conform to the following requirements.
He must have an Eagle Scout rank. If currently the applicant is applying for the rank, verification from the national office is needed.
All applications must be stamped after November 1 of each year. The eligibility of the application will continue until the midnight of February 28 of the following year. By March 5, all applications must be received by the Eagle Scout service.
He must be a graduating high school senior and an upcoming college or university freshman on the same year the application is submitted. Exceptions are only given to scouts who already have their Eagle Scout boards of review from March 1 to July 31 of their respective high school graduation year. Boys who fall under this category will be eligible for an application the next year.
He must be able to present a high school transcript with all the grades acquired for no less than the last six semesters.
He must demonstrate consistent scouting abilities and leadership. Additionally, he should provide records of other activities aside from Scouting.
He must provide a written letter extending his needs of financial educational assistance. Written in the letter are the reasons why he should be chosen for the educational grant. It should also be signed by the applicant and his parents. An endorsement from a scout leader should also be provided.
